Virgin Gorda, BVI Passage. It was the passage of a lifetime, perfect weather the whole way (well...one storm the last night)for the 9-day passage. The 15-25k winds were on the beam, starboard the first 4-days and port the last 5-days. Meals were great prepared by my daughter Jesse including a Thanksgiving turkey dinner with all the trimmings. The 4-man crew became a team and owner George B did a fantastic job preparing Widow Maker. Sirius radio kept us entertained with music, comedy and of course the Raven's game vs. SanFrancisco. The Bitter End is a great resort and North Sound is picture perfect. Click here to view pictures.

Virgin Gorda Delivery , 11.16 Finishing up preparing for this 2-week trip to Bitter End Yacht Club where Widow Maker, a C&C 44, will be berthed for the winter. We are all psyched and ready for a cruise down the Bay to Hampton, VA where I'll meet up with delivery crew, fuel up and head out to sea over the CBBT. Hoping for good weather and following seas !

Top 10 11 ASE experiences for 2010

11. Baltimore Parade of Lights was a bust with cold weather and participants who did not follow closely. Real party was down below in heated cabin and rum drinks! We had a lot of fun.
10. The Ski Club of DC rocks and is the best all-around group to sail with.
9. Fourth of July Fireworks Cruise was perfect sailing into Baltimore joining friends in a raft-up, great company and evening.
8. A successful Rock Creek Racing Association and PHRF racing season.
7. The Solomons Island Regatta night race had great wind all night when none was predicted
6.Two marriage proposals this year were a first and evenings could not have gone any better, both young women were surprised and impressed!
5. ASE sponsored two charity regattas; The Baltimore Leukemia Cup and USS Constellation Regatta were well attended and set record donations. Thanks to all who donated to the Wharf Rat team.

4. Windward Nova Commercial Real Estate and Ferr Fit sponsor Team Building and Client Appreciation outings.
3. ASE supported Habitat for Humanity Leesburg, VA and Howard High School's Lion Den with Silent Auction Gift Certificates.
2. The Bermuda Ocean Race was tough with a bevy of problems arising, but the crew came together and crossed finish line First in Class and First in Corrected Time!
1.The Arthur B Hanson Rescue Medal for the recovery of Jose Reyes and four friends in the middle of the night off Baltimore Light on the return from Solomons Regatta. I only decided to return at night because of the 100 degree heat we were having! Hats off to crew Kathleen Hazlehurst Knust, Wesley Bramble and Brian Robert.

***Few sports require as much thinking per mile as sailing - the sailor has to measure the speed and direction of both the water and the wind, which can constantly change, and then manage an array of sails and underwater hydrofoils at the correct angles to create motion in the desired direction.
